Black Thoughts Bleeding: Stomachion

Seriously, modern metal bands, keep it simple . Your names, I mean; simple, straight-to-the point names are so much better than this current crop of silly, pointlessly-extended names. Oh well, whatever, let’s just get this review over with.
There’s some passable acoustic guitar, piano, and electric guitar to be heard on the opening track, but things rapidly degrade on the second song with the band revealing its true colors as a bunch of watered-down, Black Dahlia Murder wannabes, right down to the singer having that same, irritating barf-snarl style. And, unlike certain GD staffers, I’m not into TBDM, so it looks like I’m shit out of luck with Black Thoughts as well. Besides the snarl, BTB’s singer also does this weird, drawling shout, and though a decent (if generic) vocal melody eventually shows up here, it doesn’t last for long before the snarling pops back up.
Besides that, a “dramatic” breakdown shows up later in the song, leaving no cliché stone unturned, and you also get the standard gang vocals later on in the record. Speaking of which, none of the other songs here make any more of an impact than that lackluster opener did, with some of ‘em attempting to be intense, but no more succeeding at that then the billions of metalcore bands that come before them; Black Thoughts Bleeding is just pure unremarkable, oatmeal-bland/generic, “modern” melodic metal, so no thank you.
